Chili with Beans? This is often a controversial topic. The mere thought of using beans in a chili dish brings up the ire of a lot of people. After all, chili is often referred to as Chili Con Carne (Chili with Meat) but rarely as Chili Con Frijoles (Chili with Beans). But just as there are chili recipes with no beans, there are just as many recipes that include beans that turn out very delicious.

You never have to stick to a recipe if you want to change parts of it, as long as you know what will work and what will not. That, of course, comes with experience.



Use ground to flavor cakes, biscuits and milk or fruit puddings. Sprinkle on hot drinking chocolate. Cinnamon sticks add spice to stewed or preserved fruit and to mulled wine.

Do you find yourself turning green with envy when you savor meals at the homes of others while yours seem to lay like lumps on the serving platter? Then perhaps it's time to welcome a slow cooker into your home.

However, it is rare that I ever truly leave a recipe alone and I decided to work on a recipe that left the bread machine out of the equation. I served my tweaked recipe with my quick and easy lasagna and the reviews from family and friends were glowing.

Almonds - Almonds are a great nut to pair with wine. Their subtle taste, combined with wine, makes for an interesting palette that accentuates the delicious taste of wine. The snacks you choose should always complement your wine, not overpower it, and almonds are it's natural pair.

My personal favorite use for olive oil with my bread is to make a homemade loaf of focaccia bread. I shape the bread in a free form circle similar to a pizza. After allowing the dough to rise I put finger indentations all over the top of the focaccia bread and then simply drizzle olive oil into the little indentations. I then add herbs and garlic and some coarse salt to the top. Since I have just oiled the top of the loaf they stick really well to the bread. For a change I might add some sun dried tomatoes and perhaps even some sliced olives. Bake this in the oven just as you would any other loaf of bread and when it comes out you have a wonderful taste treat that you can be proud to serve at any family meal, or perhaps you want to sneak off and eat it all by yourself.
