Because commodity prices are soaring endlessly and income sources are depleting fast, we must take frugal steps to save as much as we can in our homes. One of these is by saving leftover foods. We spend so much on groceries and we even take cash loans to help us when payday has still not come. But to waste what's left of these groceries is much like wasting these personal cash loans.

Many people have heard of the words Chinese Dim Sum, but do you know what it is? The word "dim sum" is derived from Cantonese language which literally means "dot the heart". It is a meal usually eaten during breakfast, brunch or tea consists of a mix of an assortment of Chinese snacks and appetizers in small portions served in plates or steamer basket. Dim sum can be steamed, deep-fried or baked.

In order to save time, you can cook staple foods in large quantities. This way, you can simply freeze them and heat them or spice them up with other ingredients on the following nights.

I am making more vegetarian food these days since my health episode last year, and the priest of my church, the Episcopal Church of St. Michael and All Angels, is a vegetarian as well. We bring lunch to church on Sundays, because the Spanish Mass begins at 12:30 p. m. and lets out around an hour later. At that point most of us are ready for a meal. Tomorrow I will be taking Mrs. Stufflebeam's Ratatouille to everyone.

Those of you who know me, know that I am a foodie. That's right, I love the look, taste and smell of food and I love trying foods of different cultures. I have been asked often which is my favorite cuisine, but that's almost impossible to say. However, Asian food has a special place in my heart. When I refer to Asian food, I am primarily referring to Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Indonesian. The spices are always unique and they each have dishes that they make their own.

Children love helping Mum or Dad in the kitchen. Teach them how to peel the potatoes or an apple. This will also help them with their fine motor skills. Try using some cutting items to cut it into shapes and make it fun. When it is cooked ask the child to check if it is cooked and even taste it. This will reduce the drama at meal time as they will have an advanced tasting session.

In the Fairmont Hotel's lovely Colonnade Room (2401 M St.NW, 202457-5020), Thanksgiving Day brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Turkey with all the trimmings, slow braised slow cooked lamb shanks with white bean ragout, and unlimited sparkling wine are part of the buffet. Lamb is a tasty meal that does take a little bit of a tender handling. Overcooking a good cut of lamb can dry it out. Lamb is leaner than some other meats such as beef and pork that many are familiar with.

It would be best to utilize genuine spices instead of going for easy to prepare, commercially available curry powder or paste. This way you will end up cooking a curry dish that curried lamb is especially flavorful and aromatic.

Once again, we are breaking into the series tasting wines from each of Italy's twenty wine regions. This article examines a noble red wine from the island of Sicily in southern Italy. It is very far from a bargain wine. We were about a dozen to taste it. I'll be presenting my opinions and those of others.

Everything from chips and dip to fresh prepared you tube slow cooker brisket cooked in a smoker for 16 hours. Hot dogs and sausage are two things that shine at these parties, and it is in the many creative ways people use and prepare them.

The fire is contained in the firebox, so there is no direct heat on the meat. Any heat from the fire is going to be indirect since the fire is offset and away from the meat, in a separate chamber. To make the best barbecue requires low heat, around 235 degrees F for a long period of time. Because the fire is away from the meat, it is easier to keep a nice low temperature going for that long period of time.

Read through the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines to make sure you use your slow cooking brisket properly and that you know what the different settings are for.

However, this is not to say that the brisket should contain no fat. In fact, good quality meat is defined in part by the degree of marbling, the amount of intra-muscular fat in the meat. And with brisket there is also the question of exterior fat.

Get two cans of Rotel tomatoes with green chiles. Drain the fluid from one can and add them to the cheese and sausage. In the presence of slow cooked chicken meatballs swimming in a tomato sauce the purple liquid showed great balanced and its sugar level was down. The accompanying potatoes made our Australian friend good and dark but it was excessively sweet. A medley of mixed beans and chickpeas made me note the drink's darkness, length, and, alas, the high sugar content. Fruit juice candy made a great match of dark cherries and oak in my glass.

Of course, not everyone is always (or ever) in the mood for such a complicated lunch. So, for the purists of the world, Frances's offers single-stuffed deli sandwiches, such as beef brisket and chicken salad, in addition to wonderfully juicy char-broiled burgers and breakfast skillets and omelets served all day long.

Sure, I love cooking a wide variety of tasty and healthy recipes, but some of my favorite go-to recipes are my simple curry recipes. Even before I started cooking for myself I would grind up spices in a coffee mill to make my own curry powder. In my spice cabinet, it always seems like I'm running out of turmeric. What can I say? My love affair with curry recipes is too deep.

To Saute and Steam Rice (pilaf): Measure some salt and water for your rice and bring to a boil. While waiting for the water to boil heat oil or butter in a lamb curry jar sauce at medium heat. You can also use a mixture of the two. Add the rice to the molten butter or what have you and rouse till the rice is fully coated.

I usually cook rice for fried rice using about a quarter cup less water than the directions call for. This gives you a good firm rice to work with.

The other ingredients you will need are 4 Alaska halibut fillets, a large onion (chopped into chunks), 4 garlic cloves (coarsely chopped), fresh ginger root (a 1-in piece, peeled and chopped), 5 cashew halves, canola oil (1 tablespoon), cayenne pepper (2 tablespoons, or more if you want), ground turmeric (1/2 teaspoon), ground cumin (1 teaspoon), ground coriander (1 teaspoon), salt (1 teaspoon), white sugar (1 teaspoon), chopped tomato (1/2 cup), vegetable broth (1/4 cup), and fresh cilantro (1/4 cup, chopped). One of the great things about slow cooker lamb curry is that, since there are so many spices involved, you can play around with the amounts a little to create a flavor that is uniquely yours.

An easy way to prepare leg of lamb is rubbing with herbs. Use a 5-7 pound leg of lamb. Combine tablespoon dried parsley flakes, a teaspoon dried mint, a half teaspoon each of onion salt and crushed dried rosemary, a quarter teaspoon or pepper and 2 cloves of slivered garlic. There's a thin layer on the outer surface of the meat to remove and trim the fat from it. Combine the herbs and rub over the meat thoroughly. Place in a roasting pan and cook at 325F oven for 2-3 hours for medium (160F on a meat thermometer, or to 170F for well done. Let the leg of lamb rest for 15 minutes before carving.

In the temple! Heat the butter in a small skillet and add curry leaves and mustard seeds. When the seeds begin to appear, add the chopped shallot and cook until translucent and lightly browned.
